Great holiday in a peaceful location, seeing Curlew and Golden Plover, Wheatears and once a Whimbrel from the lounge window made us feel as though we were in the most luxurious nature hide in the world!

  • Our second visit to Holsas.  Just as wonderful as seven years ago!  Thank you both!

    Mike and Carice Allen – Shropshire/Cambridgeshire – 20th June 2023

  • Lovely & quiet cottage with friendly hosts.  Everything well equipped.

    Recommendations for things to do:

    • Jarlshof & Old Scatness for iron age, bronzeage & norse remains.  Jarshof is amazing!  They have a full iron age house minus the roof.  If time, go up to Unst & the replica Longhouse & Viking boat.
    • Wildlife – Noss boat tour is great.  Ian Towriess for otter guiding on Yell.  Also the Mousa boat for Storm Petrels.
    • Scenery – Eashaness is amazing as is the scenery at Hermaness.
    • Food – Fjara is good, plus the beef from the Farm Shop is really good.
    • Recycling – glass recycling in Tesco, Lerwick car park (or outside Bigton Shop) at the far end from the shop & soft plastics recycling in the Tescos.

A great holiday & lovely place to stay.

    Chris, Harriet & Hilary – Manchester & Sheffield – 3rd to 14th June 2023

  • A wonderful, peaceful stay in Holsas.  Everything provided and a really comfy bed!

We enjoyed re-discovering South Mainland, visiting our favourite bird watching sites, including a lovely sunny day on Noss.  We even saw Curlew & Golden Plover from the window of the Lodge.

Would recommend Fjara (near Tesco’s) for an evening meal and also had a superb meal at the Dowry at Hay’s Dock (Museum).  The Museum is one of the most interesting we’ve been to.

We are heading onto Tresta & Unst now but will miss this comfortable lodge!

    Sue & John Stephenson – Northampton – 28th May to 3rd June 2023

  • Lovely time in Shetland.  Made it to see the Puffins and got to Island hop.

This place has everything you need and a few touches for things you didn’t realise you needed – like picnic bags for days out & a shopping bag for the shop run.

Quite disabled friendly with lots of space to move a wheelchair around in, parking outside & the ramp to come in.

Luckily we were blessed with good weather, only 1 wet day.

    Thanks

    Suzanne & Stuart – 12th to 17th May 2023

  • Well where do I start!  What a fantastic time we had staying in Holsas Lodge.  Absolutely everything we needed.  Highly recommend it.  Came when the snow was on the ground but that didn’t stop us from getting around.  Having Mackenzie’s Shop & Cafe nearby is brilliant.  Really enjoyed our stay.  Hope to get to stay here again.

    Thank you so so much.

Edward, Kathleen & Marie – Co Donegal, Ireland

  • A delightful stay – Great to return each day to our warm & cosy lodge – well equipped & comfortable.

    Thank you

    Anne & Ian Stewart, Gloucestershire – 5th to 15th September 2022

  • Very comfortable & well appointed Lodge.  Really enjoyed our stay with fine settled weather for the duration.

    Thank you

Pam & Carl Maxon, Lochmaben, Dumfries & Galloway – 26th August to 04th September 2022

  • We had a wonderful stay in Holsas Lodge.

Everything was well thought through.  We had all we needed.  The weather was great and we made beautiful excursions.

    Thanks to you.

    Manfred Heinzmann, Germany – 20th to 26th August 2022

  • We have had a lovely stay here.  It has been very comfortable and everything we needed was here.

We will definitely be back one day as our 4 & 1/2 year old Son has told us we haven’t seen all of the Island.

The Lode is well presented and you certainly made the most of the views.

Message from Ethan – Please be careful as my Puffin had babies.  They are very lively!!!

    Many thanks Hazel & Kenneth.

All the best for the new arrival.

    Tilly, Mark & Ethan – 10th to 15th August 2022

  • Thank you very much.  Everything was very comfortable and we had everything we needed.  It was good to be back in Cunningsburgh and meet lots of friends & family.  I am sorry we are missing the Cunningsburgh Show.

    Laura Craig-Gray & Family – 29th July to 3rd August 2022

  • Had a great stay here:  Holsas had everything we needed and more, perfect accommodation.  We explored the Islands and loved walking in remote spaces.  Tried hard to spot Orcas, but to no avail!  Loved seeing Puffins and enjoyed Seal watching.  We think we saw a Minkie…?!  Our flight to Fair Isle was cancelled because of the weather but that’s life – we just explored somewhere else instead!

Thank you, you’ve don’t a great job here.

    Melanie & Dave Leach, Woodstock, Oxfordshire – 23rd to 27th July 2022

  • My sister and I have had a loverly week at Holsas.  The Lodge is beautifully presented and so comfortable, a real home from home. Everything has been so well planned.  We enjoyed the countryside and the lovely view and the cattle across the road.

Having the shop and cafe so close is a real bonus.  Such a well stocked shop with lots of unusual items and lovely food in the cafe and friendly staff.

Holsas is so conveniently placed for driving elsewhere and so near the town.  Just great!

Would love to come back sometime and will recommend to friends.

    Thank you for everything.

Margaret Angus, Lerwick & Nancy Greig, Tillicoultry – 27th June to 2nd July 2022

  • How wonderful to be back in Shetland, especially in Cunningsburgh and every more special to be in Aithsetter.  So, so many precious memories have come flooding back while we have been here.  It has also been good to spend time with lots of good friends.  The weather wasn’t great but we had so many people to visit that it didn’t really matter.  We did manage to see lots of Tammie Norries at Sumburgh Head and get to favourite places like the Hams of Muckle Roe and the beach at Sandsound.

We have loved being at Holsas and hope to be back.  It has been such a lovely, peaceful base and we feel truly blessed to have been able to be here for two wonderful weeks.  You have worked so hard to make Holsas a really home from home.

    Thank you for everything.

    Gordon & Laura Birss – 11th to 25th June 2022

  • Thank you for providing such a lovely home from home.  We have thoroughly enjoyed staying at Holsas.  Shetland is very, very beautiful and everyone has made it possible for us to visit wonderful places.  We’ve managed to explore from the top to bottom of the Mainland & also Yell, Unst, Bessay & Noss.

    Thank you!

    Vanessa Geffen & Hugh Howard – 4th to 8th June 2022

  • We’ve really enjoyed our stay at Holsas, an ideal base for exploring the Shetland Isles, so beautiful even in the mist.  Everyone is so helpful and friendly could almost forget ‘Covid’ – going back to ‘partial lockdown’ in Northumberland.

Thank you for a lovely holiday.

    Vivien, Allan & Petra Wade – 12th to 19th September 2020

  • We’ve had a wonderful time exploring Shetland – mainly in dry, clear, weather – from our base in Holsas. It has suited our purposes well and we were very pleased to be able to “put our feet up” in comfort when we arrived “home” each day.
    Best wishes to all

    Christine & Jim Love – 22nd August to 05th Sepember 2020

  • We have had another fine holiday in Shetland, seeing a few more places, despite the restrictions of Covid-19. Places mentioned above are well worth visiting. Also the cliffs at Eshaness, Bonhoga at Weisdale and the Shetland Bus locations at Lunna, Kergord and Scalloway. The accommodation at Holsas has been first class.
    Many thanks Hazel & Kenneth.

    The Smiths – Glasgow – 11th to 22nd August 2020

  • We have had a wonderful holiday in Shetland and Holsas has been the perfect base for us. We have been incredibly lucky with the weather and have spent sunny days at the beaches of St Nininas, Spiggie, Meal and West Voe. Seeing puffins at Sumburgh was a highlight too!
Our meals out at the Farm Shop Cafe were absolutely delicious – would definitely recommend it!
Having worked as a doctor during the COVID pandemic, this holiday has been a much needed family break and we are so happy we were able to make it! We will definitely be back.

P.s the kids loved saying hello to Buddy the pony every day 🙂

    Sarah, Al, Anna & Angus – Kirkliston, Scotland – 01st to 11th August 2020

  • We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Holsas. Kenneth & Hazel & Family have gone above & beyond to kale sure guests have everything to make them feel at home. Our kids loves the ‘playhouse’ & the games/books. The excellent Farm Shop nearby was a great stop for breakfast & some shopping.
    Thank you!
