My family have lived and farmed our 38-hectare croft for over 500 years.

We continue the practices of our ancestors and in one form or another we rear:

  • beef cattle
  • sheep
  • pigs (seasonal)
  • hens

We produce silage, meadow hay, oats/barley, neeps and Shetland kale in our fields.

In our poly tunnel we grow a huge variety of fruit and vegetables including: strawberries, raspberries, cherries, plums, grapes, gooseberries, leeks, tomatoes, kale, cabbage, turnips, carrots, beetroot, cucumber, peppers, peas, onions and flowers. We are able to sell everything we produce and cannot currently satisfy local demand.

Our community of Cunningsburgh lost its shop over two years ago. Sometime after that, on Fridays, we began to operate an honesty box system on our croft where people stop along and buy our produce. This started with a few dozen eggs in a small box at the road side, but grew to a livestock trailer stocked with our own produce, other people’s produce, bread, firewood, milk, and so on. We only operated on a Friday (local newspaper day – which we sold around 90 of per week!)

So, from these humble beginnings, we are delighted to present to you today our new shop and café.

Please stop by for a little browse. We hope to see you soon.
